Duties/Responsibilites

DUTIES:    

Perform conventional practices of industrial hygiene (the science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers) in an operational facility.
Assess implementation of industrial hygiene programs within assigned organization.
Perform comprehensive advanced practices of IH by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors or stresses in the workplace.
Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases of assignment.
Perform advanced assessments of work exposures; design and conduct comprehensive exposure monitoring strategies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:        

U.S. Citizen
Industrial Hygiene Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred.
Eligibility for Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHHM) preferred.

EDUCATION:    

B.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Related Physical or Biological Science, or Special Studies and Training in these Disciplines,  and 5-10 Years Related Experience;  or M.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Related Physical or Biological Science, and 2-4 Years Related Experience; or Ph.D. in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or Related Physical or Biological Science, and 0-2 Years Related Experience.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:    

Must be able to conduct field assessments, perform sampling/monitoring, as necessary, with 
experience in workplace hazard evaluations and control specification.

Must have experience in IH Program evaluation, development, and implementation, including application of hierarchy of controls for industrial hazards.

Must be conversant in exposure assessment strategy language and determination of potential chemical exposures information. 

Must have computer skills to support documentation of monitoring/sampling conducted.

Prior Industrial Hygiene experience at a DOE site is desirable and prior SRS training and experience, including HAZWOPER, Radworker, exposure assessment, hazards analysis, and current knowledge and experience with SRS Industrial Hygiene instrumentation, is preferred.

Industrial Hygiene Certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred.

Eligibility for Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), 

Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), 

OR

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHHM) preferred.
    
WORK HOURS:    

A 40-hour work week is scheduled.  SRS utilizes various work schedules; including 4/10’s (10 hours/day, 4 days per week), 5/8’s (8 hour/day; five days per week) and, 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Schedule to be established based upon the needs of the crews and facility supported.  Workweek excludes SRNS holidays.  Each workday has an unpaid 30-minute lunch.

AREA SECURITY:    

A security clearance is not initially required; however, candidate must be capable of obtaining a L or Q clearance if required to perform assigned duties.
