Job Title:

Senior Technical Advisor, Mission Development and Support Engineering

Duration:

12 Months (2000 hours S/T and 200 O/T per year)

Duties/Responsibilites:

DUTIES

Provide technical support services to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) across several broad areas such as nuclear safety, criticality safety, nuclear systems, nuclear start-up, nuclear processing, and nuclear operations.  Some major areas may include the following:

•    Provide evaluations and recommendations to Engineering Management on nuclear operations
•    Provide detailed reviews of Nuclear Nonproliferation Program plans and Plutonium Disposition plans, initiatives, and execution
•    Generate technical baseline documents to support nuclear safety control selection, accident mitigation and control implementation
•    Mission and strategic planning for H-Canyon and HB-Line
•    Troubleshoot processing of nuclear materials, building systems, process systems
•    Provide tactical and strategic evaluations and recommendations related to generation of facility nuclear safety controls
•    Provide technical oversight and evaluations related to the integration of cross-facility nuclear safety controls and control implementation
•    Strategic planning for Plutonium disposition and MOX interface
•    Overall Project Technical, Readiness and Risk reviews
•    Operational Assessments of projects
•    Accident investigations (as needed)
•    Review and critique of various technical documents prior to submittal to DOE and/or DNFSB
•    Management briefings and training
•    Historical SRS operations and facility histories
•    Conduct of Engineering and HPI 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Combined Education and Industry Experience:
    
B.S. Degree in a Technical Discipline combined with 25 years of nuclear material/chemical separations (specifically Canyon/B-Line processing) and technical management experience 

Experience/Skills:     
•    Properties and characteristics of nuclear materials such as 239Pu, 238Pu, 237Np, 233U, HEU, LEU, NU, 241Am, and other unique and rare isotopes
•    Technical and safety related knowledge of SRS Fuel processing including PUREX and HM oxidation and reduction flowsheets. 
•    Technical and safety related knowledge of SRS plutonium and neptunium oxide production processes including ion-exchange operations, oxalate precipitation, dry processing, and oxide packaging/storage.
•    Nuclear system operations and supporting technical bases for the following: building air supply, exhaust, exhaust filtration (HEPA and sand filter), chemical storage and distribution systems, steam, cooling water supply and return, compressed air (breathing, instrument, process, and plant), electrical, nuclear criticality alarm systems and their control schemes including distributed controls 
•    Nuclear process system knowledge and experience to deal with technical installation and operation of oxalate precipitators, plutonium/neptunium calcination furnaces, DOE STD 3013 packaging systems, and related ancillary equipment.  
•    Extensive knowledge and experience with nuclear safety basis document generation including accident analysis, hazard analysis, hazard mitigation, control selection and control implementation.   
•    Experience with heavily shielded facilities, glove boxes, equipment operation within gloveboxes, and geometrically controlled equipment
•    Ability to integrate nuclear safety, operations, and chemical processes
•    DOE orders and directives, interactions between DOE weapons complex sites
•    DNSFB interaction to discuss/resolve technical issues and concerns

WORK HOURS:      Work hours will be scheduled by SRNS Management on an as required basis mutually agreed by the parties, with hours paid as actually worked and invoiced. 

AREA SECURITY ACCESS:    An L security clearance is initially required and candidate must be capable of obtaining a Q clearance if required to perform assigned duties.
