Site Sustainability and Energy Management Engineer

12 Months (2000 hours S/T and 200 O/T per year)


This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” security clearance.  After award, candidates who do not possess an active DOE clearance will be initially assigned an uncleared badge and will be required to apply for a clearance.

This position is responsible for execution of the SRS Energy & Sustainability Management Program per DOE 436.1 and Executive Order 13693.  Responsibilities require effective engagement with Facility, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel at SRS, as well as meeting the Energy Independence Security Act (EISA) requirements and document submittals.  Some of the major requirements for this position include:

•    Be the site primary Energy Management Engineering and Technical interface and effectively engage with DOE-SR and DOE-HQ in the execution of the site's Energy Management/Sustainability commitments and scopes.
•    Provide coordination and Subject Matter Expert support with various SRS organizations & tenants to comply with DOE Sustainability metrics.
•    Provide required annual Consolidated Energy Data Report (CEDR) to DOE-HQ.
•    Provide required annual Site Sustainability Plan to DOE-HQ.
•    Support DOE program/data assessments.
•    Lead the site in the conduct of Energy Independence Security Act (EISA) audits and provide required annual data reporting for the site's facilities to DOE-HQ. 
•    Respond to data and information requests from offsite parties (DOE-HQ, DOE-SR, etc.).
•    Provide Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) data.
•    Represent SRNS and participate in monthly reporting teleconferences with DOE-HQ SWG (Sustainability Working Group).
•    Participate in monthly IPT (Integrated Project Team) meetings to support the program initiatives.

Define scope of technical programs and develop effective and efficient solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Routinely use SRNS systems and meet all SRNS requirements with little supervisory guidance. Assist in teaching newer professionals and guiding their efforts. 

Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning where only general objectives are stated. Coordinate various phases of the activity and perform development work in assigned field. Define specific problems based on general problem information from management and customers. Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments and sections in focused areas to solve problems. Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance to ensure compliance and effective execution of approved schedules and staffing estimates. Ensures appropriate technical performance of the end product developed and designed to resolve the original problem. Determine scheduling and staffing requirements for assigned tasks, in collaboration with management. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues and management. Enhance expertise in field through participation in local technical societies. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.


BS Degree in Chemical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear Engineer, or Civil Engineer.

Previous experience supporting sustainability and energy management programs in the government or industrial sector is required.                       

Proficient in performing consolidated energy data reports, site sustainability plans, and related program/data assessments.                               

Proven ability to solve complex problems through effective communication and technical understanding of industrial utility/energy systems (electrical, mechanical, etc.)                               

Work history demonstrating personal accountability for project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work.                   

Ability to walk down systems in the field.                                                         

Previous experience with implementation of DOE Order 436.1 and Executive Order 13693       

Familiar with the Energy Independence Security Act (EISA) requirements and associated document submittals                                                   

Accredited by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)                                       

Working knowledge of Energy Savings Performance Contracts
