Job Title:

Health & Safety Professional (Program Management, Safety Engineer, Industrial Hygienist)

12 Months (2000 hours S/T and 200 O/T per year)


Perform Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene duties to include but not limited to program management duties, hazard analysis,

which includes anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling occupational safety and industrial hygiene hazards in the workplace. Participate in facility work planning and recommend control practices to ensure compliance with applicable DOE orders and regulations (OSHA) related to the control of potential worker Injury or illness. Monitor the conduct of work to ensure specified controls are effective in preventing or limiting potential for worker injury due to hazardous substances or conditions. Investigate issues alleging potential hazardous working conditions, participate in Occupational Safety program development and implementation for compliance of applicable DOE orders and  regulations (OSHA), conduct walkdowns and participate in preplanning of work as needed to ensure that hazards and mitigation actions are identified.  Perform duties for injury/illness recordkeeping and workers compensation administration.

    Be knowledgeable of OSHA 1920 and 1926, NFPA 70E and 10 CFR 851 Safety programs and implementation.
A 40-hour work week is scheduled.  SRS utilizes various work schedules; including 4/10’s (10 hours/day, 4 days per week), 5/8’s (8 hour/day; five days per week) and, 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Schedule to be established based upon the needs of the crews and facility supported.  Workweek excludes SRNS holidays.  Each workday has an unpaid 30-minute lunch.

ACCESS:            Security clearance not required.

BS Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field, from an accredited program or equivalent education, training and experience.

Ability to participate in work planning, conduct field inspections, assist in hazard analysis, identify appropriate mitigation measures and perform Injury/Illness record keeping and workers compensation administration.           

Safety Program evaluation, development, and implementation experience, including application of hierarchy of controls for industrial hazards.              

Conversant in Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygienist topics; hazard analysis, personal protective equipment, etc.           

Operational knowledge of Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene, with practical experience in hazards analysis, mitigation of hazards, conducting safety inspections in industrial and field settings, exposure monitoring (including OSHA requirements and
