Duties/Responsibilites

Purpose of the Position:
Administer and engineer proxies, web application firewalls and other network policy enforcement technologies in support of SRS missions.

Duties
•    Plan, perform and document updates and changes to proxy systems and firewalls as directed by team members.
•    Work with other IT personnel to gather and document firewall security requirements
•    Obtain appropriate security review/approvals for configuration changes; Follow SRS configuration change control procedures.
•    Document configuration baselines.
•    Under the direction of more experienced technical individuals, evaluate, design, develop and implement updates to software and/or hardware technologies for SRS
•    Document changes, upgrades, and tests.
•    Participate in security compliance efforts.
•    Provide off-hour support of hardware and software as required.
•    Obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. Take the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition.
•    Ensure security is considered in all system updates and changes.

Work Hours
•    A 40 hour work week will be scheduled.
•    SRNS will assign the candidate to one of the following work schedules
•    5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week)
•    4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week)
•    9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B).  
•    Each work day has an unpaid, 30 minute lunch.
•    Work week excludes SRNS holidays.
•    This position requires on-call assignment outside of normal working hours.  This will be a maximum of one week out of every four weeks.  The employee must remain within a one hour driving distance of the site and remain fit-for-duty during the on-call assignment.  Most on-call support will be performed remotely from home using SRNS-provided equipment.  Occasionally, travel to the site during after-hours on-call will be required.  Time spent activity resolving on-call issues will be compensated by a 1-to-1 swap of normal working hours or overtime payment, at the discretion of the manager.  After a three month training period, employee must be familiar enough with local processes and procedures to take on-call support without assistance.


Required Qualifications

Citizenship:
•    Must be solely a U.S. citizen.

Education:
•    The position requires, at a minimum, one of the following combinations of education and experience:

•    a 4-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline with 2 years relevant IT experience; 
•    or a non-related 4 year degree with 4 years relevant IT experience,
•    or a related 2-year degree with 6 years relevant IT experience,
•    or a high school diploma and 8 years of relevant IT experience.

Job Knowledge/Experience:
•    Knowledge of/experience with medium to large computer network concepts, services (HTTP, DNS, FTP, TCP/ICMP/UDP) and technologies
•    Support of computer systems and/or networks in a medium to large production environment
•    Knowledge of/experience with TCP network communications
•    Candidate must have a minimum of two (2) years recent experience in installing, operating, and maintaining proxies or web application firewalls in an enterprise/campus size environment
•    Practical experience is preferred in management and operations of Barracuda web application firewalls
•    Desirable experience in management and operations of Bluecoat proxies or reverse proxies

Security Access:
•    A security clearance is not initially required; however, candidate must be capable of obtaining an L or Q clearance if required to perform assigned duties.

Physical Demands: 
•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, and type on keyboard; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. 
•    Employee must be able to drive a site vehicle and/or walk to various end-user locations on site. 
•    Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal noise levels in the work environment.
